Name: Hotaru Sumeragi
Alias: Desert Rose
Age: 15
Gender: Female
Height: 5'4"
Weight: 125 lbs
Appearance:- Spoiler:
Hotaru is a simple girl, not really one for going all out as far as appearances. However, she usually dresses in some sort of nice top, long-sleeved despite the arid environment of Sunagakure, and keeps her hair down unless she's doing research or practicing jutsu (mainly her Ijutsu). There is always a teal rose worn in her hair - a hand-made beret that Misanagi gave her as a housewarming present when she'd first brought the young ninja into her home. Because the only thing that connects her to another village is the broken Kirigakure Hunter-nin mask, Misanagi gave Hotaru her Sunagakure Headband which she wears around her right upper arm proudly. Generally clad in either knee-length pants that fit loosely or black shorts, she wears standard ninja boots that have metal shin guards. She wears a holster that holds her twin iron fans, allowing for easy access, while her medical pouch is worn similar to a fanny pack, the actual pack located in the back.
Race: Asian
Hair: Black with Dark Cyan undertone
Eyes: Royal Blue
Body: Slim
Ethnicity: Mizu no Kuni
Personality: Hotaru is a generally soft-spoken and polite person, not one for initiating conflict. However, that doesn't mean that she won't unleash her fury when provoked. She doesn't like to have her life or the lives of her friends and family threatened and takes such threats very seriously. Nothing on par with life and death was seen as a joke in her eyes. Having been on the threshold of life and death, Hotaru did not take anything life had to offer for granted.
Though compassionate to her fellow man, Hotaru has mixed feelings on country loyalty. Having read up on the Shinobi Wars of the past, she believes that loyalties are important, but not a necessity. With this theory in mind, she tries not to rely too heavily on allies between nations - but alliances she's created through friendships. When the country went to hell, Hotaru at least knew she could count on the help of friends.

- Spoiler:
- Name: Bunshin no Jutsu - Clone Technique
Type: Ninjutsu
Rank: E (Basic)
Requirements: None
Description: Bunshin no Jutsu is a Ninjutsu technique which every ninja learns at the Ninja Academy. The Bunshin technique creates a copy of the ninja without substance. The copy resembles the ninja in every way. This clone can function as a distraction or as means to confuse one's opponent. As soon the Bunshin gets attacked or comes into contact with an opponent, it will disperse.
- Name: Henge no Jutsu - Transformation Technique
Type: Ninjutsu
Rank: E (Basic)
Requirements: None
Description: Henge no Jutsu is a ninjutsu technique which every ninja learns at the Ninja Academy. Henge allows the ninja to transform themselves into any person or object. This allows the ninja to move with stealth or to trick their opponents. However, it does not grant one the properties of said objects or skills of that person, meaning turning into a weapon will not allow you to cut an opponent and turning into a dog will not give you a great sense of smell.
This technique can also be used in conjunction with someone, who may a person, a pet or a summoning creature, in which case it is called Konbi Henge (Combination Transformation). However, its principles remain the same.
- Name: Kawarimi no Jutsu - Body Substitution Technique
Type: Ninjutsu
Rank: E (Basic)
Requirements: None
Description: Kawarimi no Jutsu is a basic Ninjutsu technique, and when in danger the ninja will quickly substitute them self with another nearby object. This can be a block of wood or even another person. This allows the ninja to quickly flee and hide while the original object takes the brunt of their opponents attack. Naturally, it won't work with another person unless their skill gap is enormous, and the object to replace one’s self with must be close in size and weight to the ninja themselves. This technique must be setup a little ahead when fighting skilled opponents; otherwise, you may end up getting struck because you wouldn't have enough time to use it.
- Name: Kinobori no Waza - Act of Tree Climbing
Type: Ninjutsu
Rank: C (Basic)
Requirements: None
Description: A skill that every self-respecting shinobi must have. It is based on concentrating chakra to the soles of one's feet and using it to stick to objects, which would allow one to walk on vertical surfaces and even upside down. This is also often used as chakra control training, since the soles of the feet are said to be the hardest place to control your chakra.

Background: Hotaru Sumeragi doesn't remember anything before the past three years of her life. All she can remember is waking up in the middle of the desert, blood dried and caked on her face and hands - her arm broken in a few places and a throbbing headache. When she was able to gather her surroundings, Hotaru took notice of the silver canteen attached to her belt, the two iron fans lying beside her - the blood still fresh on the metal blades - and a broken Kirigakure Hunter-nin mask. Thirst claiming her confused thoughts, Hotaru twisted open the canteen and was about to drink until the sight of crimson spilled onto the sand.
Blood.
Suddenly, frightened and confused, Hotaru feared for her life and immediately took refuge inside the gates of Sunagakure after having begged and pleaded for the village to allow her sanctuary.
Though she was granted sanctuary, Hotaru was still lost and alone with no one to guide her. Obviously she had been trained in the arts of the shinobi, but what village she came from and where her loyalties lay prior to waking up in the desert was still a mystery to her. All she had to go on were the fans that were with her, as well as the Kirigakure Hunter-nin mask with half its face broken off. Was she a Kiri-nin then? Or had the one who had left her in the desert been a Kiri-nin and hunting her? So many questions remained unanswered.
After a few months of living on her own as a street urchin, Hotaru was taken in by the village's librarian who was also a medical-nin, Misanagi, and though she felt awkward around the middle-aged woman, Hotaru did not doubt that she could trust the woman. Her passion for learning rubbed off on Hotaru and when she wasn't puzzling over where her origins were, she was constantly soaking in various different bits and pieces of knowledge where she could. Eventually, even Hotaru started to lose interest in where her roots first sprang forth. Kirigakure, Konohagakure, Sunagakure? None of it mattered. To her, home was wherever Misanagi was and that was how it would always stay.
However, there was always that nagging feeling in the back of her head that always reminded her of that day she woke up in the desert. Why was she in the desert in the country of Sunagakure in the first place? And the broken Hunter-nin mask continued to haunt the back of her mind. Was she hunted? And if so, why? And whatever happened to the body? Why did the ninja leave the mask behind?
It was during this time that Hotaru began to all but
throw herself into her studies. Never had it occurred to her that there was a possibility that she, in fact, was the Hunter-nin from Kirigakure. And if that were the case, who was she pursuing all the way out here in Sunagakure? How did she know jutsu that she didn't remember getting taught? Worse still, she felt strange urges inside of her - seemingly insatiable - that demanded to see blood.
She tried and tried as best she could to ignore the need to see it, so instead, Hotaru spent the next few years learning Ijutsu techniques. While others could only assume that she was avidly learning because she wanted to follow in Misanagi's footsteps and learning her techniques, she knew her
true reasons for doing so. It was the blood - the sight and smell and texture of it. Hotaru couldn't escape her desire so instead, she chose to live with it as best she could.
Though she has gotten no step closer to obtaining the knowledge that lies within her missing memories, Hotaru has come to terms with this strange hunger and can only hope she can keep it from her guardian for as long as she can. Until then, Hotaru could only do her best to
help those she could, sickened by the fact that she did so as part of her own selfish desires.
